Leavey, Edmond H.
Edmond Harrison Leavey (1894-1980) was born in Longview, Texas. He received his commission in the Corps of Engineers from West Point in 1917, and was assistant Professor of military science and tactics at Rensselaer from 1922 to 1926. He graduated from the Command and General Staff School in 1938, and served with the construction division in the office of the quartermaster general from 1940 to 1942. He was chief of staff of U.S. Army Forces in Ireland in 1942, then commanding officer of North African Theater of Operations base section in 1942 and 1943. He reached the rank of brigadier general in April 1943, and served as deputy chief of staff for supply at headquarters of Pacific Ocean Areas from 1943 to 1945. He reached the rank of major general in February 1944, then served as chief of staff of U.S. Army Forces in the Western Pacific in 1945.
