Paden, Irene Dakin, 1888-1974

Historian, traveller. Her two books "The Wake of the Prairie Schooner" (1943) and "Prairie Schooner Detours" (1949) describe overland trails for those who wish to follow them in twentieth century automobiles. Her "Big Oak Flat Road" (1955) is a history of route from Stockton to Yosemite. From 1931 through 1952, Mrs. Paden and her husband, William, each year travelled some portion of overland trails for a month or two. She kept daily journals of these travels and collected substantial files of accounts by earlier travellers over same terrain.
