Société des salles historiques

The heritage organization Historic Theatres' Trust was founded in Montréal in 1989 as Theatres' Trust. Its name was changed to Historic Theatres' Trust in 1992. Its mandate was to promote within the public a greater appreciation regarding the preservation of historic Canadian theatres, as well as to provide technical documentation and expertise to encourage improved methods of preserving, restoring, maintaining, operating and researching historic theatres. During its active years the organization succeeded in having many historic theatres declared as historic sites at the municipal and federal levels. The Historic Theatres' Trust was dissolved in 2006, after 17 years of activity.
