Jeffcott, Percival R., 1876-1969

Percival Robert Jeffcott (1876-1969) was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Portland, Oregon. Following his graduation from the Oregon School of Education in 1899, Jeffcott moved to Whatcom County, Washington, where he taught school for 25 years. In 1901, he organized the first high school class in Ferndale, where he served as principal, and also began the first high-school class in Custer in 1904. From the 1920s, Jeffcott focused his research on the history of Whatcom County pioneers. During his retirement, he published three books, edited the memoirs of pioneer Robert Emmett Hawley, and wrote several newspaper articles relating to local history. One of his special interests was collecting historical photographs, including images of pioneer log cabins which were displayed at the Whatcom County Old Settler's Association's annual picnics in Ferndale's Pioneer Park. P.R. Jeffcott served as historian for the Old Settler's Association and was also a member of the Clam Diggers Association and the Whatcom County Historical Society.
