Glasgow University Ossianic Society (student society: 1831-: Glasgow, Scotland)

The Glasgow University Ossianic Society (Comunn Oiseanach Oilthigh Ghlaschu) was founded by a group of students from the Scottish Highlands in 1831 at the University of Glasgow , Scotland, under the inspiration of Dr Norman MacLeod (1783-1862), minister of St Columba's, the Gaelic chapel in Glasgow. He was Honorary President of the Society from its institution until his death in 1862.

Since the 1970s the position of the Society has been one where the promotion of Gaelic is the central issue, a change from the earlier days when the social side was regarded as the Society's main function.
