Mitten, Arthur G., 1866-1938.
Arthur G. Mitten (1866-1938), born in Brighton, England, moved with his family to Goodland, Ind. in 1875. He worked for the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad and retired to Goodland in 1920. There he developed model farms, Foster Park, and the Mitten Memorial Library. His major interest was collecting books, pamphlets, printed material, graphics, and manuscripts centering on William Henry Harrison and the Northwest Territory. He was elected vice president of the Indiana Historical Society in 1930. The Society purchased this collection after his death.
