Middleton, Oliver Hering, 1798-1892.
The son of South Carolina governor Henry Middleton (1770-1846), Oliver Hering Middleton was a plantation owner (Edisto Island) and U.S. Navy officer. In 1828 he married Susan Matilda Harriet Chisolm, and their children were Oliver Hering Middleton (1845-1864), Mary Julia Middleton (b. 1829), Susan Matilda Middleton (1830-1880), Eleanor Maria Middleton (b. 1831), Emma Middleton (b. 1841) and Olivia Middleton (b. 1839), who married Frederick Rutledge Blake (b. 1838).
