Pigott, Edward Smyth, 1824-1895
Edward Frederick Smyth Pigott, 1824-1895, journalist and connoisseur of theatre. In 1850-1860, he was one of the editors of the Leader, a socialist paper, and later was on the staff of the Daily News. A well-known figure in literary circles, Pigott was a lifelong friend of Wilkie Collins. In 1874 he was appointed Examiner of Plays in the Lord Chamberlain office, which position he held until his death in 1895.
