Putnam, Karl F. (Karl Fredric), 1879-1960

Karl Fredric Putnam was born March 28, 1879, to a prominent family in Mt. Carmel, Illinois–banker and attorney Samuel R. Putnam and Agatha Weinbach Putnam. Karl attended the Northwestern University Academy (preparatory school), graduating on June 13, 1899. He entered Northwestern University in the fall of 1899, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Liberal Arts in June 1903. While at Northwestern, Putnam was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity and Delta Chi, a law fraternity.

After graduation from Northwestern University, Putnam married Fanny Johnson and had one daughter, Ann. He was a banker, as his father had been, a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and a life-long resident of Mt. Carmel until his death in St. Mary's Hospital, Evansville, in July 1960, at age 81.
