Biddle, John, 1859-1936
John Biddle (b. Feb. 2, 1859, Detroit, Michigan-d. Jan. 18, 1936), major general in the U.S. Army, was an 1881 West Point graduate. He was an engineer specializing in rivers and harbors, serving during the Spanish-American War and with expeditions to Puerto Rico and Cuba. He was in charge of river and harbor work, at various times, in San Francisco, Savannah, and Baltimore, and also served as superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy. During World War I, he was a commander in France and England. He retired from Army service in December 1920.
