Japanese American Service Committee (Chicago, Ill.). Social Services Dept.

Founded in 1946 as the Chicago Resettlers' Committee and renamed the Japanese American Service Committee (JASC) in 1954. The agency focused on helping Isseis (first generation Japanese Americans) to resettle and integrate into the Chicago, Ill., community by providing information on housing, employment, and business opportunities, and recreational programs for Niseis (second generation Japanese Americans). After resettlement the agency began to coordinate more comprehensive social services such as job placement, group discussions, and community and cultural activities. Currently the JASC does not have an overall social services director and each social service area maintain their own current records.
