Manley, Mrs. (Mary de la Rivière), 1663-1724.

English novelist and playwright. During her active and turbulent literary career Manley wrote over 20 novels and plays, and succeeded Swift as editor of The Examiner. Along with Aphra Behn, Manley was one of the first professional women writers in England.
