Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company
Madame C.J. Walker, the first American woman of any race to become a self-made millionaire, was born in Delta, LA, on this day. In 1910, she went to Indianapolis to begin the manufacture of hair preparations; later she added a complete line of toiletries and cosmetics to her products. (from Jet, Dec 29, 1997 v93 n6 p19)
