Lewis, Lunsford Lomax, 1846-1920.

Lunsford Lomax Lewis, Virginia jurist and Republican politician. Having studied in Center College (Ky.) and University of Virginia, he was admitted to the bar and entered practice at Culpeper in 1869. Soon he received the appointment of the commonwealth attorney, and later was appointed U.S. district attorney of the Eastern District of Virginia. Since 1882 he presided in the state Supreme Court of Appeals, and in 1905 was the Republican nominee for governor of Virginia. Lunsford Lomax Lewis was son-in-law of John Minor Botts (1802-1869), and half-brother of John Francis Lewis (1818-1895), Lieutenant Governor of Virginia and U.S. Senator.
