Wisconsin. Division of Food Safety.

In 1993 the Food Division (WIHV85-A899) of the Wisconsin Dept. of Agriculture, Trade, and Comsumer Protection (WIHV86-A1751) was renamed the Division of Food Safety. In the Wisconsin State Archives' database, this form of agency name is used for all appropriate records, 1993-present.

The Food Division protects the state's food supply from production through processing, packaging, distribution, and retail sale. It works to ensure safe and wholesome food and to prevent fraud and misbranding in food sales. It licenses and inspects dairy plants, food and beverage processing establishments, meat slaughter and processing facilities, food warehouses, grocery stores, and other food establishments. The division inspects all dairy farms, inspects and samples food products, and regulates food product advertising, packaging, and labeling.
