Howell, Mary C., 1932-
Pediatrician and author, (Radcliffe College, B.A., 1954; University of Minnesota, M.A., 1958, Ph.D. and M.D., 1962), Howell has been concerned with issues of alternative health care and improving the status of women as both patients and medical professionals. She has held a variety of teaching and administrative positions, including Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the Harvard Medical School (1972-1975), the first woman to attain that rank. She has participated in the Maine Women's Health Center (1975-1976), and supervised the Street Youth Program of the Massachusetts General Hospital/Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (1970-1973), providing comprehensive health care for runaways.
