Wilson, George Deliverance, 1807-1887.

George Deliverance Wilson was born in Shelbourne, Vermont, on December 28, 1807. Ill health forced him to leave Vermont, and he traveled to Ohio after hearing of the newly founded Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was given a copy of the Book of Mormon by Joseph Smith, and baptized into the Mormon faith in August 1834. Wilson worked as a mechanic in Kirtland, Ohio, from 1837-1838 before traveling with the Mormons to Missouri and Illinois. He joined the Mormon Battalion (Company E) following the Mormon exodus from Nauvoo, but because of his frequent illnesses was sent with the William W. Willis Company to winter at Pueblo, Colorado. Wilson arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. He died in Hillsdale, Utah, on October 18, 1887.
