Robertson, F. M. (Francis Marion), 1807-1892
Francis Marion Robertson was born in Abbeville District, South Carolina in 1807. After first attending West Point Military Academy for two years, he later entered the Medical College of South Carolina, from which he graduated in 1830. In 1845 he returned to Charleston from Augusta and resumed his medical practice. During the Civil War he served as surgeon in the 16th Regular Militia. In 1865 Robertson was appointed assistant professor of obstetrics at the recently reorganized Medical College of the State of South Carolina. The following year he became full professor of obstetrics and diseases of women and children. From 1867 to 1873 he served as the Dean of the College of Medicine. In 1873 he resigned from the college and in 1881 retired from practice. He died on July 15, 1892.
