Pilling, Frank N., 1908-

Biographical Note: Frank N. Pilling was an alumnus, The Johns Hopkins University.

He was born in Baltimore in 1908 and graduated from Hopkins in 1930. During the Depression years, Pilling worked as a high school English teacher and a social worker. He also began writing on subjects of interest to him: social issues, politics, and history. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. During his first Atlantic crossing, the ship was torpedoed, and he was rescued at sea. Afterwards, Pilling was stationed in London and assigned to public relations work. He worked mainly to establish a collegial relationship between American and British service people. When Pilling returned to civilian life, he resumed his personal writings, many of which were privately printed by his wife, Muriel L. Pilling. Frank N. Pilling and his wife are deceased.
