Cowan, Henry Inch.
Henry Inch Cowan was born on October 20, 1846, to Irish immigrants Henry Cowan and Catherine Benning. He enlisted to fight in the Civil War, was imprisoned in a hospital captured by Confederates, and served as a scout toward the end of the war. After formal discharge from service, Henry Inch Cowan worked as a commission merchant and volunteer firefighter. He moved to New Orleans, where he died of yellow fever on September 21, 1867.
