Richard, Joseph L., 1944-

The 28th Thomas's regiment served at the Battle of Chickasaw Bluffs and the Siege of Vicksburg during the Civil War. It was lead by Colonel Allen Thomas, a native of Maryland who later became a planter in Donaldsonville, La. In May 1862, two regiment units independently formed, one by Colonel Henry Gray and one by Thomas. Since Thomas's was formed a few days later, it became the 29th Louisiana Infantry Regiment.

The 18th Louisiana Infantry regiment was organized at Camp Moore in 1861. It fought in the Battles of Shiloh, Labadieville and Bisland. On November 14, 1863, it merged with the 10th La. Battalion (also known as the Yellow Jacket Battalion) at Simmesport to form the 18th La. Consolidated Infantry Regiment.
