Eastman, Charles G. (Charles Gamage), 1816-1860
Charles Eastman was an author and editor, most closely associated with the Vermont Patriot. Born in Maine and raised in Vermont, Eastman graduated from the University of Vermont and worked as a journalist and author, founding and editing two newspapers. He later moved to Montpelier, where he was owner and editor of the Patriot. He contributed poems to numerous publications; many of his verses celebrated the rural New England life. Eastman was also postmaster for several years, and served briefly in the Vermont state senate.
