Knudsen, Robert L. (Robert LeRoy), 1929-1989
Robert LeRoy Knudsen (1929-1989) graduated from the Naval Photographic School in Pensacola, Florida. He was a White House photographer for five Presidents' administrations: Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon. Among his most famous photographs were the pictures of John F. Kennedy's son, John Jr., walking in the Oval Office in May 1962. He also photographed the 1948 and 1952 elections of Harry S. Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 1959 meeting between Eisenhower and Nikita Khrushchev, the autopsy photos of President Kennedy, President Nixon's trips to China in 1972 and his farewell in 1974, and the weddings of Lynda Johnson, Luci Johnson, and Tricia Nixon. After leaving the White House in 1974, he headed a private photographic company.
