Rieber, Torkild, 1882-1968
Torkild Rieber (b. March 13, 1882 in Voss, Norway; d. August 10, 1968 in Manhattan, N.Y.) was a Norwegian immigrant to the United States who became chairman of the Texas Company, Texaco. He was forced to resign in August 1940 after his ties to Nazi Germany were revealed, but continued in the oil industry. Rieber helped negotiate a settlement of the oil dispute in Iran in the 1950s.
