Wisconsin. Bureau of Parks and Recreation
The Bureau of Parks and Recreation was created as one of the five bureaus within the Division of Land (WIHV04-A193) in the Department of Natural Resources (WIHV85-A695) in 1996. Park-related functions earlier were handled by the Division of Resource Management (WIHV86-A966) within the DNR. Prior to the DNR's creation in 1967, parks were in the purview of the Conservation Dept. and from 1907-1915, were overseen by a State Park Board. The above form of name is used in the Wisconsin State Archives for all appropriate records dating 1996 to the present.
