Roberts, Herbert Rufus, 1865-1950.
Herbert Roberts (1865-1950) was born in Maine on 21 January 1865. He attended schools of his native town (Brooksville) and then graduated from the East Maine Conference Seminary (Bucksport, ME) in 1888. He entered Boston University in the fall of 1888 and graduated with a BS degree in 1892. Roberts joined the NU faculty in 1892 as professor of Latin and English and the next year was appointed professor of Latin and French. He served as Dean from 1906 to 1932 and as Acting President for a short time in 1915 and again from 1917 to 1920. Roberts also served as secretary to the faculty from 1893 to 1911. He retired in 1932. Herbert married first Cora May Hooper (d.1899) in 1892 and the couple had one daughter, Alethe Maud. He married Martha Louise Sargent in 1902.
