Vann, Felix
Dr. Felix H. Vann (b. 1909), an obstetrician/gynecologist from Englewood, N.J. (Bergen County). A graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Vann joined the staff at Englewood Hospital in 1939 and became President of the medical staff in 1960. As a clinician and later medical director of the Maternal Health Center in Hackensack for over 40 years, his interest in family planning, birth control and women's health led to the founding of Planned Parenthood of Bergen County in 1979.
Dr. Vann's wife, Dr. Dorothea Deimel Vann (b. 1913), was a pediatrician who practiced in Englewood for over 20 years. A graduate of Cornell University Medical School, she was also a painter. Her father, Dr. Richard F. Deimel (1881-1955), was head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, N.J.) from 1907 to 1952. An expert on precision instruments, he was a consultant to the Sperry Gyroscope Company (N.Y.) and author of "Mechanics of the Gyroscope" (1952).
