Flanner House (Indianapolis, Ind.). Laundry School.
Flanner Guild (later Flanner House) was established in 1898 to assist a black, rural, and migrant population moving to the urban North from the southern states. The institution founded self-help programs including vocational training. Classes, including laundering, taught potential house maids and domestics to operate modern equipment. The Flanner House Laundry School was started in 1923.
