McInerney, Sally, 1946-

William Chidley 1860-1916 was an eccentric whose sexual and social theories brought him into trouble with the authorities particularly in the period 1911-1916. His case was debated in NSW Parliament and a Chidley Defence Committee formed in 1916. In 1899 Chidley sent the manuscript of his autobiography The Confessions of William James Chidley to Havelock Ellis. The autobiography was published in full in 1977 as The Confessions of Williams James Chidley edited by Sally McInerney.
