Friebolin, Carl D. (Carl David), 1878-1967.

U.S. bankruptcy referee, 1916-67, and one of the leading civic leaders of Cleveland, Ohio. A supporter of the reforms of the progressive era, Friebolin served as state representative (1911-13) and senator (1913-14), and as judge of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. Friebolin was president of the City Club of Cleveland, the City Club Forum Foundation, and the Cleveland Law Library, as well as a trustee of Western Reserve University, where he taught bankruptcy law from 1934-59. He was a nationally known expert on bankruptcy law, contributing to the drafting of the 1938 National Bankruptcy Act and also drafting the rules of uniform procedure adopted by the National Assn. of Bankruptcy Referees. He was perhaps best known in Cleveland as the author of the Anvil Revue, a satiric look at the Cleveland scene put on yearly by the City Club of Cleveland. Joseph S. Newman wrote lyrics for the music of the Revue. Friebolin was also instrumental in developing the City Club Forum, a regular speech and debate session. Friebolin's son, Brookes, was also a judge of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
