Schoharie County.
A collection of land papers of Schoharie Township, Schoharie County, New York pertaining primarily to the vicinity of Kniskerns Dorf, now Esperance, New York. Kniskerns Dorf, or town, was the northern most of the early German settlements in the county, named for Johannis [John] Peter Kniskern (ca. 1685-1759) who arrived in Schoharie County in 1712, from Rotterdam via London. In 1729 Johannis [John] Peter Kniskern, his brother Gottfried Kniskern, Philip Berg, Hendrick Houck, Hendrick Strubach, Johannis [John] Merckle, and Lambert Sternberg received a grant at the confluence of Schoharie River and Cobleskill Creek. Kniskerns Dorf encompassed Ten Eyck's Patent, Old Schoharie Patent (also known as Myndert Schuylers Patent), Lawyer and Zimmer's second allotment and part of Stoneheap Patent. Additional pioneers were Bardum Enders of Holland and the Sidney family.
