Catholic Church. Collegium Cardinalium
The College of Cardinals is the senate of the Catholic Church. The Pope consults with the cardinals assembled in consistory (i.e. in their capacity as the Church's supreme governing body) to manage Church affairs. In the later 16th century, the cardinals began to gather collections of the Acta Consistorialia for their private use. Volumes of them may now be found in many Roman libraries and in Florence, Bologna, Pistoia, and Paris.
