Arkansas Writers' Project.
The Arkansas Writers' Project was a unit of the nationwide Federal Writers' Project. It gave employment to an average of twenty-five unemployed writers, research assistants, and typists who were engaged in the preparation of projects that were to be of value to the community. These ex-slave interviews were conducted by the Arkansas Writers' Project beginning in 1936. A Survey of Negroes in Little Rock and North Little Rock was published as a result of this project.
