Lutheran Church in America. Division for World Mission and Ecumenism. Secretary for East Asia.
The Japan Evangelical Lutheran Church (JELC) was originally organized as a synod of the United Lutheran Church in America (ULCA) in 1920 and later became an "affiliated church" of the ULCA in 1950. The ULCA united with the Augustana Lutheran Church and the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1962, both of which also had missions in Japan. The JELC reorganized in 1963 to reflect its new relationships to the new North American denomination, the Lutheran Church in America (LCA). In 1972 the LCA reorganized its world mission office as the Division for World Mission and Ecumenism (DWME).
