Publishing firm formed in 1812 by Joseph Gales (1786-1860) and William Winston Seaton (1785-1866), based in Washington, D.C. Its publications included the National intelligencer, Debates and proceedings in the Congress of the United States (1834-1856), Register of debates in Congress (1824-1837), and American state papers (1832-1861).
