Stevens, Philip H., 1924-
Philip Stevens was born in Groton, N.Y. on January 18, 1924 and enlisted in the Army at Syracuse, N.Y. on April 13, 1943. Due his interested in skiing, he was assigned to the 10th Light Division, which later became the 10th Mountain Division. Steven served with Company C of 86th Infantry Regiment and was Stationed at Camp Hale, and Camp Swift before being sent to Italy. He was wounded in action on February 20, 1945 at Riva Ridge, Mt. Serrasiccia, Italy. Stevens later became active in the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division, and was a founder and three-term president of the Central New York Chapter. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Military Mountaineering Advisory Group, and later authored: Mountain Soldiers: the Quest for Preparedness (1994).
