Lambda Student Alliance (Pennsylvania State University)
The Lambda Student Alliance, founded in the mid 1980s as Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Student Alliance, served to unite allies: friends, family members, and supporters of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community (LBGT) particularly among the student population. The alliance sponsored social activities and educational programs with the goal to create a safer environment for the LBGT community. The LGBSA changed its name to Lambda Student Alliance in 1998 which merged with Allies in 2003. The alliance was superseded in 2003 by the group Speak Out. SpeakOut, a political action organization, was formed from the ashes of Allies in the Spring of 2006 by a group of students devoted to change.
