Clagett, Fred

Frederic Clagett was born in 1912 and graduated from Stanford University with an A.B. in chemistry in 1934. He arrived in Richland, Washington, in 1948 to work for the General Electric Company, the operator of the federal nuclear facility at Hanford. Clagett served as a member of the Richland City Council from 1951 to 1972 and was elected mayor by the council for four terms, 1954-1955, 1957-1958, and 1967-1970. From 1972 until his retirement in 1982, he worked for the Washington State Office of Community Development's Planning and Community Affairs Agency. He also served on numerous commissions and boards, including the Washington Thermal Power Plant Site Evaluation Council/Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council, 1973-1977, and the Washington State Constitutional Revision Commission, 1968-1969. Clagett died in 2001.
