Talbot, Catherine, 1721-1770
Catherine Talbot was the only child of the Rev. Edward Talbot, who died before she was born. She was educated in the household of Thomas Secker, Archbishop of Canterbury, where she was taught not only the Scriptures, but languages and astronomy. Talbot was a friend of Samuel Richardson and Elizabeth Carter, whom she persuaded to translate Epictetus. Carter was entrusted with Talbot's manuscripts after her death, and published her Reflections on the Seven Days of the Week (1770) and Essays on Various Subjects (1772).
