Rivero y Ustáriz, Mariano Eduardo de, 1798-1857
Rivero was a Peruvian mineralogist, naturalist, and chemist. He travelled in England, France, Germany, and Spain, and worked in the School of Mines in Paris under Berthier. In 1822, at the request of the Columbian government, he returned to South America to survey the natural resources of Columbia. In 1825, Rivero was named the Director General of Minerals for Peru. In 1831, he was named director of the Museum of Natural History and Antiquities; he studied the principal ruins of Peru.
