Pepperman, W. Leon (Walter Leon), 1876-
Pepperman was born in either Montgomery, Montgomery Co., Ala., or Hayneville, Lowndes Co., Ala. to Jacob and Mary Ellen Pepperman. He was in government service during the McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt administrations, including a stint with the U.S. Civil Service Commission in the Philippines, 1899-1902, after which he left government service. Going to New York, he became vice-president and treasurer of the Interborough Rapid Transit System, and an officer in other street railway, subway, and bus lines. He died in 1958 June, and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery.
