Weil, Lisl

Lisl Weil (1910-2006) was born in Vienna, Austria. Her career as an artist and writer began at the age of 15. She also danced and did stage design. Emigrating to New York in 1939, she worked in textile design, interior decorating, and magazine illustration for publications such as Vogue, and began to write and illustrate children's books. She also had a television program called "Children's Sketchbook". Weil performed with groups such as the Little Orchestra Society and the Boston Pops orchestra among many others: as the orchestra played she illustrated the music with dance and art, drawing on huge easels. She described it as "like ballet with a crayon". Weil illustrated over 100 books during her career.
