Pico, Andres, 1810-1876.

Last Mexican military commander and, for two days, Governor of California (1846). Under U.S. rule, a State Senator. Pico and his brother, Pio, who was Governor of California during the 1840s, awarded themselves large tracts of land in years immediately preceding Mexican War. Pico Family lost fortune and lands over several years as result of long, costly and finally unfavorable settlement of land disputes in U.S. courts.
