Murray, J. Ogden

John Ogden Murray (1840-1921) was a newspaper editor, historian, and Confederate veteran, of Goshen and later Winchester, Va. He was involved with the establishment of the Society of the Immortal Six Hundred, an association of the survivors of the 600 Confederate prisoners of war who were taken from Fort Delaware to Morris Island, S.C., and positioned in front of Confederate guns at Charleston, S.C. They were later split into two groups, with half going to Fort Pulaski, Ga., and the others going to Hilton Head, S.C.
