Black, Henry Montgomery.
Henry Montgomery Black earned his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree (1929) from Iowa State College (University) and earned a masters from Harvard University. He was Professor and Head (1946-1972) of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University. During World War II, he served as chief engineer for the Utah Beach landing during the Normandy Invasion, and retired from the military with the rank of Colonel. Black Engineering on Iowa State's campus was named in his honor.
Bernice Bernard Black worked for four years in retail in both New York and Chicago and married Henry Montgomery Black in 1936. They had two children, Bruce and Bernice. Mrs. Black was very active in many Ames organizations.
