Scranton Electric Company.
The Scranton Electric Company was organized in April 1907 through the consolidation and merger of the five electric companies then operating in the city of Scranton. The company thus acquired a monopoly over Scranton's electric generating capacity. In 1928 it acquired Lackawanna Electric Light & Power Company and extended its area of operation over the entire county. The Scranton Electric Company was controlled by the Electric Bond and Share Company, the same holding company that controlled Pennsylvania Power & Light. As a result these two companies never competed with each other. In 1956 the Scranton Electric Company was formally acquired by PP&L.
