Ellffryth, Daniell, fl. 1608-1640.
Adventurer, sea captain, Bermuda and Mosquito Coast colonist.
An adventurer in the Caribbean from 1607 to 1621, Daniell Ellffryth obtained the support of Robert Rich, later the Earl of Warwick, for whom he operated the privateer, "Treasurer." Ellffryth settled on Bermuda in 1621, where with Philip Bell, another Warwick partisan, he laid plans to settle Providence and St. Andrews, islands Ellffryth had discovered off the Mosquito Coast of Nicaragua in the Spanish Caribbean (now part of Colombia). Appointed admiral of the chartered colony of Providence in 1631, Ellffryth soon captured a Spanish frigate for which he was grounded at Providence Island and reprimanded by the Providence Company in 1632. Ellffryth remained at Providence Island until at least 1638.
