Tilman, H.W. (Harold William), 1898-1977?
Tilman, an English mountaineer, began climbing in 1929. During the 1930s he was involved in many pioneering expeditions in the Himalaya Mountains. Tilman climbed Mount Everest, the Karakoram Range (K-2), other mountains in the Himalayas and in Africa. During World War II he served in the British Special Services in Africa, Albania and Italy. Following the War Tilman gave up mountaineering and became an avid sailor.
