Sigerson, George, 1839-1925
Irish translator and physician.
Born in County Tyrone, Ireland, Sigerson was educated at Queen's College, Cork, where he graduated in medicine in 1859. He became professor of Botany as well as Zoology. His work as a translator of Irish literature culminated with an anthology, Bards of the Gael and Gall in 1897, which was arranged historically to present a variety of Irish poetry across different phases of development. Sigerson died in 1925.
