Agricultural History Society.
The Agricultural History Society (AHS) founded in 1919, was one of the first specialized history groups. The distinguised botanist Rodney H. True was chosen as chair and later elected the first president of the society. The founding members were of diverse professions: historians, sociologists, economists, and other scientists who believed they could better comprehend their individuals fields through an understanding of the history of agriculture. The society maintained close association with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) through the Bureau of Agricultural Economics and successor organizations. Several employees of USDA have served as secretary -treasurer or editor of Agricultural History Society.
